Robert Toia, Beau Fermor, and Trent Loiero will make their highly anticipated State of Origin debuts for the Queensland Maroons taking on New South Wales at Lang Park on May 28.
After losing last year’s series 2-1, coach Billy Slater has turned to new blood to fill the void, with injuries ravaging the side since team selection began.
Dolphins forward Tom Gilbert suffered a pectoral injury, while North Queensland winger Murray Taulagi was ruled out with a calf issue. And just as the team was being named, Brisbane outside back Selwyn Cobbo joined the growing injury list, suffering a possible wrist fracture in the 30-26 loss to St George Illawarra.
Toia and Fermor bring a history of overcoming setbacks, both suffering two ACL ruptures in their careers. Loiero is known as a feisty forward, playing with physicality and work ethic.
