SSL/TLS
Noun | /ˌɛs ɛs ˈɛl/ /ˌtiː ɛl ˈɛs/
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and its successor Transport Layer Security (TLS) are cryptographic protocols that provide secure communications over computer networks, most notably for HTTPS.
Key Features:
- Encrypts data in transit
- Authenticates servers (and optionally clients)
- Prevents eavesdropping and tampering
Example:
“Always check for TLS 1.2 or higher when entering sensitive information online.”
