Proteins are essential to the structure and function of all living cells and are required for the regulation, metabolism, and transport of cellular components. Proteins are large, complex molecules that are composed of amino acids. The body synthesizes proteins through a process known as protein synthesis.
Protein synthesis occurs in the cells of all living organisms and is the process by which new proteins are created. Protein synthesis is a complex process that involves the coordinated actions of many different enzymes. The first step in protein synthesis is the formation of a template, which is a sequence of nucleotides that will serve as a blueprint for the new protein. The template is formed by the DNA in the nucleus of the cell.
How Does the Body Synthesize Protein? Part 2
RNA, which is similar to DNA, then uses the template to produce a complementary sequence of nucleotides. This RNA sequence is then used as a template for the assembly of amino acids into a protein. The amino acids are joined together by chemical bonds known as peptide bonds.
