A couple of early observations from Adelaide Oval, where Bailey Smith was glimpsed addressing the Geelong players in their huddle before the first bounce. That’s intriguing.
Port’s Josh Sinn has copped a heavy knock early, and has hobbled off appearing to nurse sore ribs. He was crunched by Mark O’Connor’s right knee in an accidental aerial collision.
Willie Rioli is making his return for Port after a one-match suspension for allegedly making threatening remarks towards rival players. A relatively small but ever-enthusiastic, poncho-clad crowd has turned out in wintry, wet conditions as Geelong (5-4) look to consolidate their spot in the top eight and Port (4-5) bid to avert a third successive defeat. Rioli has Ollie Henry for company in the Power’s forward line, while Esava Ratugolea has the early job on Patrick Dangerfield in the Cats’ attack.
Miles Bergman, who shut down Adelaide captain Jordan Dawson in last weekend’s Showdown, looks to have been given another tagging task, this time on Geelong star Smith.
