Police are investigating the suspicious death of a young mother, after she collapsed at a Queensland home last night.
The 23-year-old woman from Afghanistan was found by police at a home on Ash Avenue in Springfield Lakes, south of Brisbane, at 8pm yesterday.
She was unconscious and not breathing.
Detective Inspector Michael Manago called the death tragic, with the woman’s children, aged three and four, home at the time.
“This is a terribly tragic event, especially given that young children were in the home,” Manago said.
“Detectives are running a number of lines of inquiry in regards to what’s occurred overnight … what transpired in the hours leading up to what’s occurred will form part of our investigation.”
Police had received reports that the 23-year-old had collapsed.
Despite efforts from first responders, the mother-of-two was declared dead at the scene.
“Any scene such as that is quite a chaotic scene… for the first responders that attended, it may have been somewhat confronting to them,” Manago said.
Manago said the woman lived at the home with her husband, aged 26, and brother-in-law, aged 28, for a short period of time before her death.
Both men are assisting police with their enquiries.
He also said the family were Afghan nationals renting the split residence in Springfield Lakes.
Police say they believe the death is suspicious, but they did not confirm if any weapons were found at the home or if the 23-year-old had any visible injuries.
A Mercedes has been seized from the home as part of the investigation.
The children are being cared for off-site.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death are ongoing.
