Buses are being touted as alternatives to commuters in western Sydney, but at Strathfield, it’s a struggle to get on any.
Anyone attempting to travel west of Strathfield is being directed towards some of the organised replacement buses.
Lines full of people stretch around the train station, waiting on buses that are always overflowing. Many have abandoned public transport, instead turning to Uber, where prices have skyrocketed.

Ina Holzapfel has been trying to get to work since 6:30am and is still stuck.
She anticipates it could be several hours until she arrives, meaning her morning commute could take up to five hours.
“I understand it’s a safety thing, but it’s so frustrating,” she said.
“I’m sure they worked all through the night, and I have a lot of compassion and understanding, but it’s frustrating. Especially when there doesn’t seem to be many bus services.
“I already paid $100 for an Uber home from work yesterday, it looks like I’ll be getting another $100 Uber to work this morning. That’s a lot of money to just get to work.”
Jarvis Cole is from Melbourne and visiting Sydney for work.
He’s been trying to get to Parramatta from North Sydney, and has been struggling for the past 90 minutes. And he thinks public transport should be free for the day.
“Whenever these things happen in cities globally, they give you free fairs for the day,” he says.
“It might not be much, but it would be a nice gesture.”
